Yo Como…
Yo Como are Michael Johnston and Maggie Devlin.
We formed a folk/indie duo in Glasgow in 2007 after meeting in Waxy O'Connor's some years earlier. Michael plays live music in Waxy's twice a week and Maggie regularly left the safety of the bar during her time there to venture up to stretch her vocal chords in the odd song or two.
In 2007, when Maggie returned from a stint of volunteering in Malawi, we decided to sink our teeth into our first musical project together - an album with the aim of getting people to think a little more about Malawi and garner some support for the innovative and nimble charity, Ripple Africa. Drawing on our love for traditional music and folksy roots, the project blends Scottish and Irish traditional songs with a few original compositions. The result is Give A Sunrise.
Our thanks go to violinist Jenny Whitham and steel guitarist Jeff Hanson for their contributions. Jenny, as well as bringing tremendous fun to our sessions, added another dimension to Billy Taylor and Hanson's cross-Atlantic steel guitar work on Anam Cara brought a unique quality to the song, totally transforming the sound.
Proceeds from the album will be donated to Ripple Africa - a charity which truly changes lives and genuinely creates a world of possibility for hundreds of people in northern Malawi. In times when the world is tightening its belt, Ripple needs our help more than ever. If you enjoy listening to the music then please consider donating a little to this very worthy cause.
We hope you like our music; Look out for a debut original album from us in the near future...
Listen fondly, think kindly, love Billy Joel.
Love,
Yo Como
